SOME OF OUR SHOWS: Comic Culture Extremely Extreme

I'm always looking for places to host me.  Grants
love me and I produce great results.
Clients for my workshop has included over two dozen
branches of the New York Public Library, the Bronx
Museum of the Arts, the Studio Museum of Harlem, the
NY Design Museum, ASPIRA of NY, JCAL, the Hetrick
Martin Institute, Start Strong Bronx, and the Harvey Milk
School.
I've been teaching Comic Culture; a cartooning class aimed at urban
youth using tried and true principles of positive youth development,
truth, justice and the human way.  It's all about learning to use your art
to interpret, challenge, recreate and even change our popular culture.
I've taught and developed this class for about 10 years now, teaching at
wonderful places like the New York Design Museum, the New York Public
Library, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, FREE ARTS, ASPIRA of New York,
the
Hetrick-Martin Institute and the Harvey Milk School.

And you know something?  I've learned much more about cartooning, the
culture and the world from these kids than I could ever hope to teach them.
Please enjoy these proud photos of
my students and their work
which includes sculpture, Photoshop
projects, character design, tee shirt design
and good old fashion drawing.
The classes always
end with a
presentation;
from business
models for their
comic book
universes and
media companies,
displays of their best
work,
Giant Robot designs,
clay maquettes
of their original
character designs,
etc...

They never fail to
impress me with
their creativity and
progression.

Not only do they
learn to use the
fundamental tools of
cartooning to create
comics and
character designs,
but also to see,
interpret and
investigate
all popular culture.

They learn the best
way to change the
world is to change
the culture.
One of my 2004 classes.  I like to begin by bringing in a super-hero or
wrestling demon to pose and inspire.  Questions and answers always follow as
the hero is quizzed on anything from lifestyle to super-tog shopping habits.
